ACADEMIC SYSTEM

Courses Offered
The college offers 5-year MBBS course, as approved by Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council, leading to MBBS degree of the University of Dhaka. The academic session shall be from July to June each year. The first session started from June 2002.

Expense of the study
Tuition and other fees payable at the time of admission will be notified in the College notice board.
Tuition fees for the 1st year shall be payable at the time of admission. Subsequently tuition fees are payable on quarterly basis, Le., by 15th June, September, December and March. Students who fall to pass their final examination in five years time will have to pay the prescribed tuition fees for the period beyond five years.

Conduct and Discipline
During their stay in the college all students are required to abide by all the rules and regulations of the college. Non-adherence to these rules and regulations makes the students liable to disciplinary action, which may range from warning to expulsion from the college. Students in TMMC are forbidden, to organize any union, association or society other than those set up by the college authority in order to enrich their physical, intellectual and ethical development.

Bond
The candidates and their parents or guardians are required to sign bonds on non judicial stamp regarding the terms and conditions of study, conduct and discipline before admission to the college.

Methods and Medium of Instruction
College follows modem teaching methods including small group teaching, class assignments, laboratory work, simulation, case analysis and field study. A special feature of teaching is the small group sessions designed to assist students in learning application of concepts and theories. Extensive use of information technology such as interactive internet, CD-ROM, medical related soft wares will be made as teaching and learning aids. The medium of instruction is English.

SPECIAL COURSES IN ENGLISH & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

In order to familiarize the first year students with systems, two special courses have been arranged in collaboration with BRAC University. These are:

a. Basic English Course:
3 credits (3 hrs/week/15 weeks: The course is specialty designed for medical students so that they can follow instruction in English; read, understand and comprehend English texts, references and journals; browse web "Sites, utilize internet services and communicate freely in English.

b. Special IT Course - Introduction to use of Computers:
3 credits ( 3 hrs /week /15 weeks ): The course will help students to use computer hard wares and soft wares as tools for solving problems. This will include common applications of soft wares including word processing, spread sheet, data base management and electronic communications using internet and world wide web.
On completion, students will get certificates mentioning the courses.

c. In-course Evaluation:
Students are expected to maintain a consistently high standard in their academic work. In-Course evaluations will be made through regular periodic class tests, quizzes, assignments and mid/end term examinations conducted by individual departments. The mid/end term tests shall include written (Combinations of MCQ's, Short-questions and Essays). Viva Voce, Practical including OSPE's and OSCE's. The results shall be recorded in students progress Report Cards/Log Book.

No students shall be allowed to sit for Professional MBBS Examinations of the University, unless he/she attends a minimum of 75 per cent of classes held, secures at least 50 per cent marks in class assignments and periodic in-course examinations and demonstrates satisfactory attitude, behavior and conduct.

d. End-course Examinations:
The University of Dhaka shall conduct three Professional Examinations for 5 years' MBBS Course.

Internship Training:
All students passing the Final Professional MBBS Examination shall be required to undergo one year compulsory internship training as prescribed by BM&DC at TMMC Hospital.
The training is designed specifically to develop the necessary skills and attitudes to deal with common health problems, to work in hospital and in community; and will be fully structured and rigorously supervised. The trainees will be entitled to appropriate subsistence allowance/honorarium. The Internship training is compulsory and the prerequisite for obtaining registration with Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council.
